Washington D.C. - U.S. Congressman Greg Pence (IN-06) released a statement today following the House vote on H.R. 2456 (House Amendment to Senate Amendment to H.R. 550) – Repeal of the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq of 2002, a piece of legislation specifically timed to politically attack President Trump for defending American soil in Iraq.  This legislation prohibits the use of federal funds for military action in or against Iran unless Congress specifically authorizes it or declares war and as such is a dangerous infringement on the President’s authority as Commander-in-Chief.

“For the sake of our national security, protecting American soil abroad and the safety of our citizens, the Commander-in-Chief must be able to make swift and decisive military action against our adversaries. We have one Commander-in-Chief, not 535,” said Congressman Pence. “House Democrats keep playing politics to undercut President Trump, but they absolutely cannot compromise the safety of our troops abroad and our citizens at home. Our Commander-in-Chief cannot have his hands tied behind his back during a time of danger. This Democrat legislation to limit the military authority of the Commander-in-Chief of the United States is dangerous.”

Congressman Greg Pence represents Indiana’s 6th District. From Columbus, Indiana, Pence advocates for conservative Hoosier values as a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee.
