Greg Pence Joins Energy and Commerce Committee
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Greg Pence (IN-06) today announced his new House Energy and Commerce Committee assignment for the 117th Congress and released the following statement:
“I am proud to join the Energy and Commerce Committee for the 117th Congress. This committee is the oldest standing legislative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and is entrusted with broad jurisdiction. With this responsibility, representatives are truly able to give their constituents a powerful voice in Congress.
The committee maintains principle oversight responsibility for rural broadband deployment, energy, interstate and foreign commerce, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health and research, and environmental quality, among others.
As I travel the Sixth District, I get the chance to listen to what our communities have prioritized and what Hoosiers are most concerned about. I take that to heart and let it guide me as I draft legislation and vote in Congress. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Energy and Commerce leads the way in Washington.
Energy and Commerce has primary jurisdiction over the federal agencies responsible for rural broadband investment, and that is a major priority for Hoosiers in the Sixth District. Without access to reliable rural broadband, entire communities are left behind. Access to safe, modern, and efficient infrastructure impacts nearly every rural community and industry in the nation, from agriculture to health care and medicine. Connecting our rural communities is one of my top priorities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We must close the digital divide so Hoosiers can learn and work from home.
I have the honor of representing the Sixth District of Indiana in Congress and giving my community a voice in Washington, and with a seat on the Energy and Commerce Committee, this voice will be stronger than ever on behalf of the Hoosiers who sent me to our nation’s capital,” said Congressman Pence.
“Congressman Greg Pence is going to be a great asset on the Energy and Commerce Committee—the most influential committee in the House. From healthcare, to technology, to energy, he brings invaluable expertise and knowledge to lead on policies that will improve people’s lives, especially those he serves in Indiana,” said Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
Congressman Greg Pence represents Indiana’s 6th District. From Columbus, Indiana, Pence advocates for conservative Hoosier values as a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
